Major league baseball transactions include the formation of rosters. Each league team maintains a 25-man as well as 40-man roster of players. The players on the 25-man roster are allowed to play in the major league games throughout the season. The 40-man roster includes the players of the 25-man roster as well as other 15 players. The players in this roster are allowed to play only in the matches that are held between September 1 and the end of the season. The 40-man roster is also called the expanded roster.
Trades in the Transaction:
The teams in the league are allowed to trade only those players who are currently under a contract. Drafted players from the previous years are exempt from this. As of today, trades between two teams can occur at any time in a year. If a player has remained active in the major league roster for ten full seasons and on one team for last five seasons, then the player is not eligible for trading until prior consent from the individual player. Some players also negotiate to have a no-trade clause to be added in their contracts. In some trades, the name of the player is often kept undisclosed. These players usually belong to the minor leagues. This player has to be named within a period of six months.
Waivers:
All players under the contract may be placed on waivers at any given time. In case an individual player is waived, then that player gets eligible to be absorbed by any other team. The waiver is a well kept secret of the Major League Baseball Transaction. The announcement of the waiver is not made until a transaction actually takes place. In case no team comes forward to claim the player from the waiver, then that player is either transferred to the minor league or is traded or released.
