The Major League Baseball essentially requires all players in the team wearing synchronized uniforms even though this decree was not under obligation in the early days of this sport. In the beginning, the teams were basically distinguished from the color of the stockings of the players. The subsequent popularization of Cincinnati Red Stocking further led to the approval of the color of socks as unique to that particular club. In the year 1982, the NL (National League) delegated different stockings color to clubs’ members such as white to Chicago, Red to Boston, Grey to Buffalo, Gold to Detroit, Blue to Worcester and Green to Troy. The same year, the MLB allotted cap and jersey colors not on the basis of club, but on the position of the player.
Rules of MLB Uniforms:
The official rules as stated by the MLB are as follows:
In a game, all the players need to wear similar uniforms.
The number of the uniform must appear in the back portion.
In case the undershirt of the players gets exposed, then players of the team need to wear the co-coordinating ones.
The office of league requires that every team need to go for a particular uniform in all games or can adhere to white uniforms.
The length of the sleeves can include minor variations, although the sleeves cannot be frayed, slit or ragged.
Any attachments of an uncoordinated color are not allowed on the uniforms.
Images indicating or imitating the Baseball shape cannot be used on the uniforms.
Any kind of ads is not acceptable on the uniforms.
Miscellaneous:
The league does allow including names of the players on the back of the uniforms. The league president is liable to sanction any name other than the last names.
